Michigantown Breaks Ground on Wastewater Utility Project
News Channel 18 – Ground breaks on Michigantown wastewater project
On August 25, the Town of Michigantown broke ground on the Wastewater Utility Improvements Project. This is a comprehensive infrastructure effort that will strengthen Michigantown’s wastewater collection and treatment system. The project includes improvements extending from the Town’s underground sanitary sewer network to its wastewater treatment facilities.
The work includes rehabilitation of sanitary sewer lines and manholes, improvements to the wastewater treatment plant and lift stations, and dredging of the wastewater treatment plant primary lagoons. Together, these improvements are designed to extend the useful life of existing infrastructure, improve system reliability and operating performance, and help protect public health and the environment.
More than $5.3 million in state and federal grant and loan funding has been secured to make these improvements possible. This includes a 75% grant from USDA RD AND an additional $750K grant from OCRA to address both their WW collection system and the WWTP. This project represents Michigantown’s commitment to maintaining dependable public services, responsibly investing in critical infrastructure, and preparing the community for the future.
