Milford Water Utility Improvements Groundbreaking

On October 14, the Town of Milford held a groundbreaking event for the Water Utility Improvements project. This project includes two divisions of work: a new water treatment plant to be constructed by R. Yoder Construction and distribution system improvements to be constructed by Selge Construction.

Milford is a groundwater-sourced water system and has historically struggled with very high levels of iron and manganese. This leads to cloudy water and chronic issues with iron deposits forming in piping and the resulting clogging and low pressures. The new water treatment plant will house aeration, detention, and filtration equipment designed to remove iron and manganese and will drastically improve the water quality for the Town users.

The distribution system has many dead-end water mains throughout the Town. These dead ends cause stagnant water, low pressures, and exacerbate the mineral deposits forming within the water mains and fittings. The improvements in the system include water main tie-ins designed to loop water mains in the worst locations. Additionally, the project includes the replacement of about 50-60 lead or galvanized water services in the Town.

This project has been funded through the Indiana Finance Authority – State Revolving Fund (IFA – SRF) loan program. The Town of Milford has received $4,761,000 forgivable loan dollars through SRF, as well as part of the funding of the project.
