Crown Point Breaks Ground on Section 219 Main Street Infrastructure Improvements

On Tuesday, June 22, the City of Crown Point celebrated the groundbreaking of the Section 219 Crown Point Main Street Sewer Infrastructure Improvements Project. The groundbreaking was held at Taft Middle School. This marks the beginning of the project, which is scheduled to conclude in mid-August.

U.S. Representative Frank Mrvan joined Crown Point Mayor David Uran and Deputy Commander LTC Matthew Broderick of the Army Corps of Engineers for the occasion. “Crown Point is looking forward to another project in partnership with the Army Corps of Engineers,” Uran said. “The City values its partnership with the Army Corps and looks forward to utilizing mainly non-invasive methods to restore area sewers. Our responsibility as a City is to maintain our infrastructure, promote a strong sense of security for our community, and continue working to make Crown Point a valued place to live.”

Sanitary sewer rehabilitation ranked as a high priority in this area with high inflow and infiltration. A total of 23 sanitary sewer manholes will be rehabilitated, and 6,000 linear feet of cured-in-place pipe sewer lining will be installed. Additionally, a back-flow prevention valve will be installed, and a combined sewer overflow flow meter will be relocated at the intersection of Main Street and South Street.

The project is authorized under Section 219 of the Water Resources Development Act of 1992. Section 219 allows the Army Corps to assist in the design and construction of water-related environmental infrastructure projects. The 1.3-million-dollar project will be funded with 75% federal funds and a 25% cash match of $325,000 from Crown Point.
