Project Description:
St. Bernice Water Corporation owns and operates a water distribution system. Water is purchased from Clinton Township Water Company. This water is pumped to St. Bernice’s ground-level storage tank, and a booster station pumps the water to customers and to the elevated storage tank. The booster station, ground-level storage tank, and elevated storage tank are all in need of minimal improvements in order to ensure the reliability of the source of water to the customers of the Utility. Customer meters are past their useful life and are in need of replacement. The distribution system consists mainly of PVC and HDPE, but repairs and newer pipes have been installed using galvanized pipe. These repairs and replacements were not recorded, so the location of this galvanized pipe is unknown. Also, the majority of the distribution system consists of a pipe with a smaller than 4-inch diameter, and the majority of the pipe is connected with glue joints.
The recommended project is inclusive of booster station improvements, targeted distribution system improvements, service line replacements, customer meter replacements, a new administration building, and storage tank repairs. Booster station improvements include replacing the PLC for the SCADA system and fixing minimal electrical issues. Targeted distribution system improvements include replacing galvanized mains, adding looping to the system, and adding additional flushing hydrants to dead ends in the system. Storage tank repairs include minor repairs on both the elevated and ground storage tanks, blasting and recoating the ground storage tank, and installing water mixers in both tanks.
