Clean the Park Day – Portage, IN
On Friday, July 18th, Commonwealth’s Crown Point Office Staff, along with Thieneman Construction and the City of Portage, volunteered for Clean the Park Day. It was a great opportunity to give back to the Portage Community by clearing overgrown brush and vegetation along 2 miles of the City’s Prairie Duneland Trail. Over 50 volunteers from Thieneman, the Portage Parks Department, Portage Wastewater Staff, Portage Township, and Commonwealth joined forces to make a difference.
The Post Tribune featured the event: Volunteers give Portage’s Prairie Duneland Trail foliage a trim, in which Utilities Superintendent Tracie Marshall was quoted to say, “They’re like family, they came and did the work. If there was a problem, they came and told me when it was fixed.”
Park Superintendent Kelly Smith said, “We’re overworked… we will never turn away help.” “Figuring 50 working putting in six hours Friday, that’s 300 hours of volunteer work, a value right under $10,000, not counting the equipment they brought,” Smith said.
Commonwealth Engineers is proud to be an integral part of our client communities and is thankful for the opportunity to make a difference.
