Annual Significant Water Withdrawal Reports – due March 2022
Annual Significant Water Withdrawal reports are due to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) on March 31, 2022. IDNR requires owners of significant water withdrawal facilities to prepare and submit verified reports of the amount of water withdrawn during the year. This entails annual reporting of the volume of water withdrawn from utility sources, whether groundwater or surface water, on commission forms. Remember to retain copies of completed reports with other regulatory reports and records.
While preparing IDNR reports, consider reviewing source water equipment files for preventive maintenance and repair notes or outstanding work orders. In doing so, give special attention to the equipment age and condition, performance, and accuracy of source water meters. Identify equipment that is reaching its expected useful life or dropping off in performance that might require repair or replacement. In addition, calculate and compare the difference between the water withdrawn from sources to the total water used in treatment for public consumption. To finish the task, report your findings to utility leadership along with cost estimates and recommendations for keeping the utilities’ equipment in good working order.
Commonwealth Engineers can assist utility operators with analyzing source-water concerns, addressing outdated or failing equipment issues, and troubleshooting treatment processes. For additional information or assistance, contact Jeffrey Fish, Operations Specialist.
