Town of Claypool Celebrates Completion of $4.6 Million Wastewater and Stormwater Improvements Project

CLAYPOOL, IN – On October 22, 2026, the Town of Claypool celebrated the completion of its $4.6 million wastewater and stormwater improvements project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house at the town’s wastewater treatment plant. The event brought together town officials, project partners, and community members to recognize the successful completion of a project years in the making.

The improvements address aging infrastructure, enhance wastewater treatment capabilities, and position Claypool to better serve its residents while accommodating future growth.

Modernizing Claypool’s Wastewater Infrastructure

A major component of the project involved upgrading the town’s existing wastewater treatment plant with technology designed to improve treatment performance and operational efficiency.

Key improvements included:

  • Enhanced Lagoon Treatment: Added aeration to the existing lagoon system to improve wastewater treatment.
  • Advanced Ammonia Removal: Installed a Submerged Attached Growth Reactor (SAGR) system to provide more effective ammonia removal.
  • Ultraviolet Disinfection: Replaced traditional chlorine disinfection with UV technology, eliminating the need for chemical disinfectants.
  • Increased Treatment Capacity: Expanded the plant’s capacity from approximately 33,600 gallons per day to 56,400 gallons per day, providing additional capacity to support future development.

Beyond the treatment plant, the project addressed critical infrastructure throughout the community. Approximately 14,000 linear feet of sanitary sewer were cleaned and inspected, with targeted rehabilitation to reduce unwanted groundwater and stormwater entering the collection system. Additionally, approximately 2,000 linear feet of new storm sewer, along with manholes and inlets, were installed to improve stormwater management.

A Collaborative Investment in Claypool’s Future

Bringing this project to completion required years of planning, coordination, and financial partnership. Funding included $1.6 million in forgivable loan assistance through the Indiana Finance Authority’s State Revolving Fund Loan Program, a $750,000 grant from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, and $200,000 from the Kosciusko County K21 Health Foundation.

The October 22 ceremony provided an opportunity to recognize the dedication of town leadership, funding partners, engineers, contractors, and everyone involved in turning the project from a long-term vision into a reality.

The project demonstrates how thoughtful infrastructure investments and collaborative partnerships can help small communities overcome challenges while preparing for the future.

Building for the Years Ahead

With construction complete, Claypool now has a more capable wastewater treatment system, improved sanitary sewer infrastructure, and enhanced stormwater management. These improvements will help the town maintain reliable service, meet environmental requirements, and support future residential and economic development.

The ribbon-cutting marked more than the completion of a construction project. It celebrated the town’s commitment to maintaining essential infrastructure and creating a strong foundation for generations to come.

Congratulations to the Town of Claypool and all project partners on this important achievement!
