Crown Point Liberty Park Sewer Improvements Ribbon Cutting
Friday, September 13, the City of Crown Point’s Mayor Pete Land, City staff, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Chicago District, and Congressman Frank J. Mrvan celebrated the completion of the Liberty Park Pipelining project!
The project alleviates flooding in the area while improving the sanitary sewer infrastructure throughout the Liberty Park neighborhood. Improvements included lining up to 1,100 linear feet of 12-inch sewers, 500 linear feet of 10-inch sewers, and 9,000 linear feet of 8-inch sewers. Additionally, 38 manholes were rehabilitated to reduce inflow and infiltration.
Prior to the project’s completion, the sewers in this neighborhood were very near collapse and had near complete blockage by roots. After the project, all pipes are structurally sound, and pipe capacity has been restored. Inflow and infiltration is greatly reduced and the City noted they no longer receive emergency phone calls for this neighborhood!
This is the seventh project the City has partnered with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for a 75/25 match. The City’s match for this roughly $1.2 million project was $391,666.
