Fort Wayne’s Hessen Cassel Drainage and Sidewalk Improvements Phase 2 Project

Significant drainage and sidewalk improvements were recently completed on Hessen Cassel Road in Southeast Fort Wayne between Oxford Street and Stardale Drive. Shallow swales, stormwater inlets, ditch stabilization improvements, and storm utility pipe ranging in size from 1 to 4 feet in diameter were constructed to alleviate long-term standing water and poor drainage problems. Approximately 1.5 miles of new sidewalks were also constructed to make walking safer along the heavily traveled road, resulting in increased connectivity between neighborhoods. Commonwealth Engineers teamed with Apex Consulting & Surveying to complete the design, and API Construction Corp was the selected Contractor for the 3.7 million dollar project.
