Giving Back: How Commonwealth Employees Are Making a Difference in Their Communities
At Commonwealth Engineers, Inc., we believe that strengthening our communities goes beyond the engineering work we do for our clients; it is an extension into the neighborhoods where we live and work. Across all our regional offices, employee volunteerism has become a defining part of our company culture. Whether it’s cleaning up local parks, collecting food for families in need, or supporting environmental initiatives, Commonwealth employees are dedicated to giving back in meaningful ways.
Fort Wayne Office Takes Action for a Cleaner and Healthier Community
On May 3, employees from our Fort Wayne office participated in the city’s annual Great American Cleanup, part of a national initiative to beautify public spaces. Dressed in fluorescent yellow shirts and equipped with gloves and garbage bags, the Fort Wayne team rolled up their sleeves to clean the area along Coldwater Road and Till Road – just steps from our local office. More than 15 large bags of litter were removed from the roadside and green spaces.
“Our team takes pride in keeping our community clean,” said Ben Adams, Fort Wayne Office Manager. “It’s a tangible way to show we care.”
But the impact didn’t stop there. In response to urgent calls from local food banks, the Fort Wayne office also held a mid-year food drive for the Community Harvest Food Bank between May 19 and June 4. Employees collected non-perishable food items to help address record-breaking demand.
“We have been blessed with so much that it’s important to remember to give back to those less fortunate than us,” Adams added.

Evansville Team Supports Clean Water with Ohio River Sweep
On June 21, Commonwealth’s Evansville office staff joined forces with the Town of Newburgh for their Annual Ohio River Sweep, an event focused on cleaning the riverbanks and raising awareness about water pollution. Our employees worked alongside the Town of Newburgh’s staff to remove debris from the Ohio River shoreline while helping to educate the public on how small actions can lead to better water quality.
The Evansville team’s consistent participation in this initiative demonstrates Commonwealth’s long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship. From protecting waterways to improving stormwater systems, our professional work aligns closely with our volunteer efforts.

A Culture of Service Across All Offices
These recent events are just a snapshot of Commonwealth’s broader dedication to community involvement. Across Indiana and beyond, our employees have supported dozens of charitable causes, including:
- Running 5K races to support client community causes
- Decorating Christmas Trees in the City Square
- Participating in the Meals on Wheels program to deliver meals to seniors
- Organizing school supply drives for the Boys and Girls Club
- Packing Operation Christmas Child gift boxes for children around the world
- Hosting Holiday food drives to ensure no family goes without
- Presenting in local schools about STEM Careers during Engineers’ Week
- And many more.
Each of these efforts reflects the shared values that unite us as a company. We don’t just engineer infrastructure, we build relationships, strengthen communities, and lead by example.

Looking Ahead
As we continue to grow, so does our impact. We are proud of our employees who consistently step up to make a difference, not because they have to, but because they want to. Volunteerism at Commonwealth isn’t an initiative – it’s who we are.
Together, we can continue to build stronger, cleaner, and more connected communities.
