Homeowners in a specific service area will be asked to schedule inspections. Affected property owners will receive a notice on their front door the week of November 11, which will include contact information and instructions on scheduling.

City of Rochester Water Service Line Field Work

Commonwealth Engineers, Inc., accompanied by a City of Rochester Water Utility Department Representative, will be locating and inspecting water service lines to check for the presence of lead. This will include:

  1. Locating Meter Pits and Curb Stops
  2. Identifying Routing from Pit to Main and Pit to Your Home
  3. Determine Service Line Material in Your Home

Beginning November 18, we will need to access homes in a specific service area to inspect the water service line entry point and material and plumbing layout for the planned replacement of an existing shut-off valve or similar.

This project will allow the City of Rochester to apply for grant funding, minimizing the need for future rate increases for service line improvement work, and providing qualifying homeowners for replacement of their service lines from the meter to shut off valve (in their home) within funds available.  The service line from the meter into the home is owned by the homeowner.  Without taking advantage of programs such as this, the homeowner runs the risk of being liable for the full cost of a future replacement. We encourage you to take maximum advantage of this program while the opportunity and funding are available.
