Project Spotlight: City of Garrett Wastewater Collection System Hydraulic Modeling

The City of Garrett, Indiana, recently completed a wastewater collection system hydraulic modeling effort. Approximately ninety-seven manhole structures containing pipe diameters of ten (10) inches and larger were surveyed as part of this effort. Data from the survey was utilized to build the physical architecture of the collection system into the hydraulic model. In addition, eight (8) temporary area-velocity flow meters were placed in key locations of the collection system for three (3) months. Utilizing the flow meter data and temporary rain gauge data, the hydraulic model was calibrated to dry and wet weather conditions. The City of Garrett now has a powerful tool that can assist in the planning and design of wastewater infrastructure.
