Entry-Level Environmental Scientist

JOB DESCRIPTION

Commonwealth Engineers is seeking an entry-level Environmental Scientist to join our award-winning engineering design and consulting firm. The candidate must be a self-starter willing to grow with our company. Applicant must be adaptable and willing to work in a performance and deadline-driven environment and a team setting. Training will be made available for specific duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare permit applications
  • Prepare environmental reports as required by funding agencies
  • Evaluate sites for potential wetland/stream mitigation
  • Prepare water quality plans as required by drinking water and/or wastewater regulatory programs
  • Execute/track target marketing activities
  • Prepare technical reports, memorandums, and graphics
  • Perform environmental resource planning including historic/architectural resources, wetlands, surface waters, groundwater, floodway and floodplain, plants and animals, soils, farmland impacts
  • Effectively communicate environmental findings and permitting needs to engineering staff
  • Other duties as assigned

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or Public Affairs
  • Experience working with Local, State, and/or Federal Environmental/Regulatory Agencies is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in GIS Database systems (preferred but not required)
  • Assertive interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in team environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize
