Entry-Level Environmental Scientist
JOB DESCRIPTION
Commonwealth Engineers is seeking an entry-level Environmental Scientist to join our award-winning engineering design and consulting firm. The candidate must be a self-starter willing to grow with our company. Applicant must be adaptable and willing to work in a performance and deadline-driven environment and a team setting. Training will be made available for specific duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare permit applications
- Prepare environmental reports as required by funding agencies
- Evaluate sites for potential wetland/stream mitigation
- Prepare water quality plans as required by drinking water and/or wastewater regulatory programs
- Execute/track target marketing activities
- Prepare technical reports, memorandums, and graphics
- Perform environmental resource planning including historic/architectural resources, wetlands, surface waters, groundwater, floodway and floodplain, plants and animals, soils, farmland impacts
- Effectively communicate environmental findings and permitting needs to engineering staff
- Other duties as assigned
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or Public Affairs
- Experience working with Local, State, and/or Federal Environmental/Regulatory Agencies is a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Proficiency in GIS Database systems (preferred but not required)
- Assertive interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in team environments
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize
