West Morris Street, Indianapolis – Groundbreaking
A groundbreaking was held on Thursday, March 31 for a $6.5 million community-led streetscape project along West Morris Street, Indianapolis.
This project includes improvements along a 5,800 ft. section of Morris Street from the Bridge Over Eagle Creek to Harding Street. The work will include new curbs and gutters and related drainage improvements, sewer separation, sidewalks, pathway connection to greenway trail, bus stop areas, additional on-street parking areas, reduced cross-sections, new ADA pedestrian ramps, and crosswalks, the addition of landscaping medians and island areas and the replacement of retaining walls along with existing homes and businesses.
“Here on West Morris Street, a community has been working for over a decade to bring about the project we begin today,” said Mayor Joe Hogsett. “Working so that children will be able to cross the street safely, thanks to
added crosswalks; working so that pedestrians of every ability can access their community thanks to new ADA-compliant sidewalks; and working so that the Eagle Creek Greenway finally has a Morris Street connection point for walkers, runners, and cyclists.” – West Morris Street revitalization project begins | wthr.com
